360 Turret Rotation
Those ideas for using phone cord swivels to bridge the wires from below to the turret and modifying the gear teeth for the TURRET so it can rotate 360 is amazing I'm all over that like Dingo in a Maternity ward!
BUT!......
Phone swivels have only 4 leads.
So....is this list complete and does it make sense?
These are the connections that I can think of without actually diving in of course.
4 wires should be it right?
1. Gun Elevation Motor.
2. Recoil Motor.
3. Flash.
4. ground or 'common'
am I missing anything.....would the Battery Neg / GROUND be the source be for all that
stuff?
Thank you!

Re: 360 Turret Rotation
I'm using HL flash unit so in mine I have 2 wires from unit to the LED/strobe bit. Then three wires Airsoft/elevation/ground.
And there is the 2 wires from the micro switch for those who haven't gone the diode firing mod route.
That's mine anyway, but your not using the HL flash so as long as you can use the same common for flash and turret motors I think you've got it covered there.

Re: 360 Turret Rotation
Thanks.
Good news for you my lad......It seems that on the net there are 360 turn / swivel units for Cat 5 lines...meaning....MORE WIRES!!!
http://altecds.com/index.php/hdmi-male- ... apter.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There is this one as well.
http://www.trianglecables.com/psv15hd-swivel.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I got my Tamiya Recoil unit today and I was wondering ....the diagrams say the 'white' wire goes here one one of the 5 plug pins ....but what happens to the other two? One is a ground I assume.
Has anyone hooked up a Tamiya Recoil unit to a RX 18 before?

Re: 360 Turret Rotation
Turns out they are not Cat5....but computer USB connectors.
Someone at work suggested because its not super high tech or any speed in general
it would be easy enough to make our own.....hmmmm....not a bad idea.
ONLY! If more than four wires are needed....still looking into that one.

Re: 360 Turret Rotation
to have elevation, turret MG, airsoft and a turret antenna you'd need more than 4 wires.

Re: 360 Turret Rotation
to have:
1. elevation.
2. turret MG.
3. airsoft.
4. turret antenna
you'd need more than 4 wires.
These are the items on my Tiger Turret LIST:
1. Elevation -Two wires - One ground
2. Tamiya recoil -Two wires -One -ground
3. Flash - two wires - One common / ground???.....not sure yet.
No Antenna ....so far...was thinking about using the area above the tracks for that.
So because of the Tamiya Recoil it looks like a modified Phone swivel or some mre high tech.

Re: 360 Turret Rotation
Sounds like you're at 6 wires.
For the antenna on a Tiger, why not use the real position, which was on the hull anyways. US tanks and modern tanks had their antennas on the turret.

Good point and so with that.....where was the antenna on a early Tiger?

Rear deck, right side..from the back, 3rd road wheel in almost centre of that wheel.
