Hi Stevie,
I have just been looking at the 'Field of Armor' web site and the prices are quite low for 1/6th stuff......Please can I ask you a couple of a cheeky questions? ..and they are .....is the quality good? ...and do you think that it will hold together as a serious cross-country R/C tank ??

Phew ! I am glad that you are going to put that all 'Right'. I think that a length of track or a spare wheel has much more protection than a bloomin sand bag......It has always puzzled me why the allies did that.....I doubt that an 88mm shell would be slowed much by a canvas bag full of sand !

Slight derail here, but my old Uncle Dennis (9th Queen's Royal Lancers) told me they got a right earful from the Quartermaster if they slung tracks as armour round their turrets and frontal plates. Very expensive it seems - and not in King's Regulations. It was clearly done, and there can be no doubt of that (tracks, road-wheels, anything), but the use of sandbags might be connected to the seeming official dislike for wasting material (bit odd, as if a track deflects a round and saves a tank...... but that is bureaucracy for you).

Ironically enough, from my time a the ROF at Chorley, I learned that sandbags on tanks actually assisted early German HEAT rounds - providing no appreciable defence but giving the projectile the perfect stand-off distance to develop maximum penetration potential.

now, back on topic, if only to add my congrats and generally green hue to the assemble hordes. I'd love a Jgd like that, but the wife would skin me alive THEN make me sleep outside and *THEN* probably nick the thing and play with it.

Hi Steve, I considered this kit very strongly, but at the time they had not develop a control arm suspension system,and their tanks were straight axle, my point being if your kit is the early design I could help you resource the upgraded parts as I had gotten that far in my research of their early kits.

Richard at Steel Dragons is the owner and I suggest a little research before commuting any money or time to their parts inventory,I'm not trying to be negative,just saying their are other resources available.

I'm sure you will have a fine time and before long we will all see a properly painted Jagdpanther in historical colors and markings.

Hi Sax this is the type without suspension but it is not a quick mover more like you would expect a real tank to move in scale so the suspension is not realy important as I use it on flat ground but a suspension would be useful for loading it into the car via the ramp I got with it so I would be interested in upgrading it. I only got the tank at the weekend and I have drove it for about ten minutes the upper and lower hull is all 20 guage steel so its quite strong the detail can be better but I hope to make it a lot better. The first thing I will do is paint the entire inside with red primer to stop it rusting in the shed in the Scottish winter.

Hi Stevie, The primer is a must. My Tiger sat in the shed for a year and when I did start to rebuild it RUST had creped in, If you can get RUST O LEUM Primer it will prevent all rust.

Steel Dragons site was down last night so I have no new information, But Armortek is most likely your best source once you consider the shipping cost and VAT for parts from the USA they would be a bargain.

My VIPER Tiger needed alot of work,GIL at Armortek sent me a free copy of their Tiger manual which includes a parts list with the individual parts draft of each part. This has been a very helpful asset to my build, and their forum although restricted to owner has an excellent FOR SALE section, My Armortek Trakc and Sprockets were purchased through that source.

RUST O LEUM rusty metal primer

The primer you need is etch primer. You can get it in UK from Halfords. Brand is Upol. This is a light grey primer but you can paint over with rust red primer if you want. This gives much better protection. Metal needs to be thoroughly cleaned first. Oxidizing starts realy quickly. Have never seen Saxondog's version. Could be good but might be U.S. product
