Bring on the tiger!
Bring on the tiger!
Hi everyone,
Just saying hello and be prepared for a bucketload of noob questions!
Waiting for delivery of my first rc tank, a HL Tiger I prepared by Forgebear, who i found
out about from this site.
I'm well excited, feel like a little kid again, even though the missus thinks i'm too old
to be `playing' with toy tanks, oh well cant wait!
Cheers guys

Re: Bring on the tiger!
If its the heng long its a early type,so africa and russia 43 are the best options,as early was'nt the thing in normandy, some early types were backfitted with late steel rimmed wheels in 1945 hybrids you could call them,if you have any ideas what unit or campaign you want just ask,I could scan some colour illustrations for you,you can get decals for most Tiger units, and there are quite a few of us here that know a bit about production types who will be only too happy to help if you want accuracy etc
Re: Bring on the tiger!
So if i stick to mods up to 43 it should be okay?
kinda tempted by an afrika corps version, snow tigers are beautiful but dont really
rock my boat.
Could you give me some pointers for specs, colours, armament re afrika corps or
did they use mainlt panzer 4's?
Any chance of upgrading my HL to 501'st?

Re: Bring on the tiger!
heng long Tigers need a bit of work I've not done one yet,but other posts will tell you all you need to know, the best unit for early heng long is sPzAbt 504,501 had even earlier types with different front mudguards, and exhaust shields, and a few other bits,I've got pictures I can scan if you need to do 501,but 504 would be easier, they arrived later and surviving 501 Tigers were transfered to 504 the bovington Tiger was a 504 and a good one to base your research, esp photos of her before restoration(the repaint is a little off IMHO) it seems that according to some that 501 had some repaints while there, where as the new 504 tanks were a light yellowish tan, different to the standard German dark yellow, and they had smaller than usual turret numbers in plain red all of those recorded had no's beginning with 1,bov's Tgr is 131,so 111,112,113,114 ?,121,122,123,124,131,etc,some platoon or zug may have been understrength, and some may have made up a 2nd Kompanie,211 and so on,with Pz III's making up the rest of the Abteilung, there was less than 40 tigers sent to africa, these were along with pzkw III's in both 501 and 504 these 2 units along with 10th Pz Div made up Panzer Armee Afrika, along with the original 15th and 21st Pz Divs who were the Afrika Korps, yes there were Pzkw IV ausf F/G on the strengths of these Pz Divs,501/504 and 10th Pz were not of the Afrika Korps

Re: Bring on the tiger!
Nice one sparks, bought it purely for historical research dont cha know!
von kraftwerk, thanks for the details, if so few were sent to africa maybe thats the way to go,
would'nt mind a unique tiger from a rarely copied unit, dont want the same number as everyone else. I'll try and research some north african tigers circa '43 and pick up on the detailing.
p.s could one of you guys check out my tank virgin questions post?
Think i'm gonna have to do loads of overtime to pay for my tiger habit!
