Should have done this years ago!

Post by jonger »

Hi
Just joined after giving in to years of temptation and getting a Heng Long Tiger 1 - the family were not impressed when "Father Christmas" left me a big box under the tree this year, I can safely say it was greeted with the same enthusiasm as the real Tigers were by the Allies :haha:

Me - I have had a great Christmas and I also got myself the Tamiya Wehrmacht Tank Crewman as well so I could paint the Heng Long commander to match.

I was disappointed that the only Heng Long "British" tank of the period is a Sherman - with an American crewman, so after browing this forum I have decided to embark on my own Cromwell project, I am going to use the Walker Bulldog as a base purely because it has the correct wheel arrangement but will need a lot of modification to look right, I have already noticed the bulldog hull width is narrower than the Cromwell so I'm planning to replicate the Cromwells double armoured side arrangement by enclosing the suspension between the hull and an outer plate.

One question - what material do other scratch builders use, my local hobby shop only has plasticard in A4 sheets I'll need bigger ones than that and could do with 2mm or 3mm thick card for rigidity.
Thanks for reading, off to browse the forums now.

Hi and welcome to the forum, sounds like you have a good enthusiasm, and going in straight at the deep end, so i look forward to a build thread on the Cromwell :D Most people use Platicard like you say, i have only ever seen it in A4 sheets, but you can get it in different thicknesses, have a look here http://www.anticsonline.co.uk/2162_1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for the welcome's, I looked at those links and noticed the plasticard manufacturers name of Slaters - so a bit of searching came up with their web site and they sell direct and all sizes from A4 up to 1350 x 660mm (4' 5" x 2' 4") Hope this helps other builders.
The link is https://slatersplastikard.com/plastikard.php/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have found another supplier of plasticard and they are cheaper than Slaters, they do thicker sheets right up to 4mm as well.
Called Envisioncraft -(http://www.envisioncraft.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) And I have just received my plasticard sheets so I can start on my Cromwell, been making cardboard patterns so far working out how to translate the true scale patterns to the bulldog hull I have got as my base.
I'll start a new thread with the build so far.
