Turning points Part 1

Post by Saxondog »

Through out the 5 years of war many different events have had an impact on the end results, the Greek campaign delaying Barbarossa being at the time a small confrontation on the entire conflict. But as with most events at the time the effect was not realized. The earlier attempts by the Luftwaffe over the skies of Brittan wasted many planes and pilots that were really needed for Barbarossa.

Then the inability of the German Africa Corp. to defeat the British because of the supply issue another Italian fault here as well, then the total failure of the larger Italian fleet to control the sea born supply routes because of the British fleet air arm and the fear of that branch of the British fleet. Had the Italians who had a modern force of Battleships and cruisers which were know for their speed had but one aircraft carrier the conflict may well of been different.

The same is true of the Kreigsmarine, of the two aircraft carriers of which only one was near completion in 1940 the Graf Zeppelin ,and the cruiser conversion of the 8"gun Sedlitz to be named Peter Strasser.Had this fleet air arm been supported by Hitler the battle of the Atlantic may well of gone a much different route.

But the common enemy of the Axis powers was the same for all, ARROGANCE. And the allies used this fault to great advantage and the ultimate defeat of the axis was the result.
