ANZAC Day.

Many of you probably know of ANZAC Day, some pic's from my small corner of the globe.
(Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) ANZAC Day the 25th of April marks the
anniversary of the first major action by forces of these two countries in WW I.

I live out in the Tasman Sea around 700klms NE of Sydney, we are therefore the easterly
most point of the Commonwealth of Australia to mark this occasion every year.

ANZAC Day Lord Howe Island 25 April 2010.





At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them, Lest we forget.

Bless them all, thanks to them for leaving a sunny paradise and coming to a war ravaged Europe. We are all free to say what we like because of their sacrifice.

We have an ANZAC grave yard near us where a lot of Australian and NZ soldiers died after WW1 of Flu waiting for transports to get home. Every year the local school children lay flowers on their graves on ANZAC day. There is also a huge Kiwi calved in the chalk hills that was completed by the troops before they left UK.

It concerns me sometimes that the machinery I am interested in and the engineering that goes into making AFVs,military aircraft and capital ships is essentially for enforcing a point of view by force. Can you imagine what it must be like being hit by an 88mm shell? Or any other calibre for that matter. We should all be thankful that despite the threat of terrorism at least there are no huge armies engaged in destroying each other on a global scale. Have we learnt anything yet?

Hey magmer,
I get the same feelings, however you can't change history, sadly us humans
have been fitting each other for thousands of years. I don't see my model
making as celebrating war in any way. I do see myself as a bit of a historian
and helping in my small way of making our more fortunate generations to
never forget!
