King Tiger

Post by oztruck »

I didn't like the paint on the King when I got it so I have changed things a bit
At the moment it has a base coat of color which will be decaled and weathered. Its going to be a no camo job just for a change.

You are correct it is a Matorro. The lump is going to be concealed and the two holes in the front of the turret fixed. I had a Tamiya King about 20 years ago, all it did was run at 100mph go left and right and would back up at 80mph.
This one runs SWEET and love the way the main gun traverses. Nice and slow, just as it should be.

I wouldn't remove the notches at the base of the turret glacis completely.
I'm not positive about this but I think they had something to do with locking the turret in place during transport.
You can just see one of the notches in the picture below which is from, schwere Panzer Abteilung 503 Feldherrnhalle in Budapest, 1945

The cut outs are to clear open hatches and vents
They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

Cheers Rivetcounter, I knew they had some purpose. Just wasn't quite sure what it was.

I did some work on the 2 cut outs, added some more protection on the front (to hide the lump) and added some weathering.
What do you think?
