Replacement HL Smoker Unit

Post by Doodledoo »

Hi all,

I wanted to say thank you to Blake for helping this novice to dismantle my Tiger to replace the stock HL faulty smoker unit. Not a big deal to most of you seasoned pros,but not ever owning a tank before I was concerned at having to take so much out and unhooking wires just to change this part incase I didn't get the bits back in the right places.

After actually doing it I was surprised to find just how easy it was in the end. I replaced the stock HL smoker unit with the newer improved version that doesn't have the wire element. I must say,it smokes a hell of a lot better than the original ever did in its short life!
I seem to remember reading here somewhere that Tigers were 'petrol driven' and not diesel and therefore they didn't smoke, but hey, this looks so cool I don't really care to be honest, it just looks very good. I lubed up the gearboxes again with some Apiezon grease.

So again,thanks to Blake for his input and others that chipped in, I really appreciate it.

Hi Guys,

Have I done something wrong buying this unit? I found it brand new on EBay from a guy in Poland of all places, it is, so I was told, the 'new' HL replacement version for the original stock one. It has a clear reservoir and doesn't have the wire inside, it has filaments. I did mention this to you Blake on the 24th Feb when you were explaining to me how to remove the old unit. I believe the ID was called A-r-g-i-n-y.
It looks identical to the stock version in specification, but it is black in colour with a clear reservoir. The visual indoor smoke output is about 3-4 times that of the original stock unit and the effect looks really good.
I was assured that it is a Heng Long direct change out replacement product, hope I haven't unwittingly trampled on anyone's toes here???

This unit is the stock H/L non=proportional unit,with clear tank.Their is nothing wrong but this is the same element as your other smoker.And you have done nothing wrong or stepped on any one's toers.My only concern was you not getting taken or mislead.The smoker only runs one speed so it will produce the same degree of smoke as the other units at full speed,but at full speed moving the smoke seems less.If the wick burns up or you want a replacement wich for any H/L smoker I will be able to ship in 10-14 days.I will be posting some demo videos of the new designed smoker and an H/L useing the new wick.Doodle I'm happy you have overcome your first problem and resolved it the right way,the forum.That's the best thing about the forum the collective information available to each member.Cheers Blake

That's what i was trying to prevent,I'm sorry for letting this fall between the cracks.My computer crashing,was the primary cuase I did not follow up with you sooner.That is the new fuel tank but the old style smoker,one speed and very loud.I will be releasing the new smoker in two weeks,I can send you a replacment element for your other smoker and you could re-build it if you like? Once again sorry you got mislead,does it work? Cheers Blake

Hi Blake, it does seem to work quite well,better than the one that came with the Tiger originally, see this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xT-FMckFXw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Do you know yet how much you will be selling your model for? Does it involve any soldering as I am useless with a soldering iron :o( Doodle
