reply from RC-universe moderator

Post by oz »

well, here is the reply i got when i asked why they removed our thread.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  RE: Your thread has been removed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The reason that your thread was removed should be obvious.  As is usually the case with this type of topic, the members get in an uproar for no reason.  I acted in the proscribed manner for a moderator, remove a thread that breaks the community policies and notify the originator of the thread.  That is all that is required.  If I were to try to notify every member who had posted in the thread as to the reason the thread was removed, it would have taken hours.  I have a life outside of RC Universe and for me to be expected to spend all my free time explaining my actions to every member is outlandish.

I have been a moderator of R/C forums since long before RC Universe existed.  I understand the rules and the thought process of the administrators and work to see the RCUniverse is all that they want it to be.  When someone breaks the rules and has a post or thread removed, they do not automatically gain victim status even though they may play the card.

There was nothing wrong with the original thread as long as the topic remained on the online club but when it began to take on the problems of a competing forum, then it became time to remove the thread.  There were far more posts relating to the forum than the online club.

A thread such as yours becomes a sounding board for disgruntled members who see it as a chance to unload their frustrations with moderators.  Left unchecked, it becomes nothing more than a place for anyone and everyone to bash moderators and that is against community policies just as bashing other members.

I hate to say I told you so, but...

"attack the forum and we will act!!! - but we don't care if you insult other members in a 'my tank is better than your tank' thread because poeple still read it and the sponsors pay per view!"

he does have a point that the thread dicussed a 'rival' forum - most forums will get annoyed about that, what gets my goat about RCU is that they let all the other BS slide...

stuff those guys, let them rot! the future is here!!!
(atleast until the server crashes again *ahem* ;D)

Just for balance I'd like to point out that my paternal grandmother wanted to be a truck driver (like my grandad) but she was top of her class in aircraft recogniton so she was assigned to a AA battery:
The only thing that they ever shot down was a RAF Bristol Blenhiem...!

(Not that I blame her, but she passed away before I was old enough to get to know her for more than Grandad and Dad's (very occasional) "she could have been a great truck driver if it wasn't for that stupid test!" type rant...)

For those veiwers who still have grand parents who are ww2 vets - get to know them! there is so much that they can share!!!!

Hope this is taken a good way,the way it is ment.
I can understand to a degree as to RCU not wanting a competitor to advertise a different forum,but as big as they are don't see why they are that concerned.(maybe they need to be) Second they mabe should put a little more attention onto some of the outright slander from one member to
another in variouse way's,never good for any forum. ;) ;)
One thing I have seen a couple of times here was the fact that some of our allies was killed by accident by american military personel,and this could maybe be taken in the wrong context,and not the way it may have ment to be taken.I will take it as to bringing to light a tragic accident that we hope can some how have a fail safe way to insure it will never happen again.I'm not sure how many times this has happened and even what countrys was involved,but I did watch on the history channel as they explained how one of these accidents happened.I'm not even sure if it happened the first time we fought Iraq or the current fighting and most likely has happened in both.This has happened in every war and also our own troops killing our own troupes,and I'm sure the other way around.I can't think of a sadder and more tragic thing than to have killed your own people,or your allies fighting by your side.We must remember during these battles things are happening fast and a lot of confussion througout the lines.The one I seen was from a aircraft I believe off a carrier that fired on either a (Tank or APC ),think it was a tank.This took place at night,this vehicle was far advanced from what was thought to be friendly forces,the pilot had called in for conformation as to weither enamy or friendly,was told it was the ennamy and fired on the vehicle only to receive word that the vehicle was friendly.When you touch the fire button you can't call it back,very ,very,tragic in deed to all concerned.
I could only immagine what must have went through this guys mind as he was flying back to his ship to face his fellow pilots,His commanding officers,and the entire crew on the ship.This will be a burdon that will be with him for the rest of his life,and for a lot of people can and does ruin the rest of their lives when a tragic thing like this happens.It is very sad to think about it.

I'm not going to get into a fight with you BIGMIG (or any other serviceman here, ex or otherwise), as I've posted above, mistakes do happen!
I have a long list of examples of "oppsie", but that would serve no useful purpose to post here. I stand by my original statment however, it doesn't seem to matter whether it is applied to the military, the Feds or the Police here :(
I have the utmost respect for anybody who puts on a uniform and serves their country, its just sad to see that sometimes maybe the training and/or procedures aren't as through as they should be - as you said - once the button is pressed you can't ever take it back  :(

I'll get off my soapbox now before I upset anybody else  :-[
