Hi,
I got my first tank, a HL Pershing, about two weeks ago! I've wanted this since I was a kid back in the 60s! Bought my first airbrush too. I've already removed the tank's side dust guards and filled all those holes for gear. Next is to texture the turret & glacis, then paint and weather! I haven't painted a model vehicle since... let's see... since George Bush SENIOR was president. I have done some 120mm display figures (brushed oils) and various historical wargame figures, so I'm not a painting novice. Actually, I do have a few hundred 1/285th scale tanks (WWII and Arab-Israeli) painted a couple of decades ago.

Welcome Gandalf the Grey! I also set aside modeling for quite some time, until picking it back up again a few years ago... you're in the right place here... wow, 1/285 scale? How do you paint them... with a microscope & a single hair?

Hello, and welcome from a damp Scotland. It appears you are off to a good start, by invalidating you warranty..
You don’t get wiser as you get older. You just run out of stupid things to do.

Welcome Gandalf and am pondering doing a Pershing myself. Whereabouts in the Snowy North are you from? Right about now that describes a huge swath of North America

Hi Gandalf
Welcome, from another kid from the 60s, based in the UK. Also just returned to tank modelling and also just purchased a first airbrush. Just finished a Tongde Churchill, be good to see your progress with the Pershing

Re: From the snowy north
Indeed, greetings from the snowy north of the US... Some of us get inspired from about November to March to paint our AFVs in mud-splashed, time and weather-worn white. I wonder why? Ah, 120 mm figures, eh? Ooh, we do love photos and there is a special part of this forum for those: viewforum.php?f=86
