Tamiya is-2 rescue

Post by tomhugill »

Less rescuey than usual! But a sad looking js-2 came into my possession a while ago. Quite a lot of bits not fitted and had suffered damage to the mantlet gun pivot agrea ImageImageImageImageImageImage

The hinge for the loafers hatch had snapped so a new one was made out of brass. The hinges for the commanders hatches are pretty weak too. Luckily I obtained a taigen one from a job lot of stuff I bought. This fitted absolutely perfectly. Refitted all the remaining detail bits and changed out the thicker metal grab handles for the finer plastic ones. ImageImageImageImageImage

In preparation for painting, base coat of tamiya gunship grey which gives a nice steel colour for chipping. Then hairspray ready for the mig 4bo set. This is the new atom line of paints for will be interesting to see how they work.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

What a cool looking monster. One of those is still on my long list.

I am very interested in what you think of the Ammo/Mig Atom paints though. I'm a Tamiya guy but I occasionally use Ammo/Mig paints, I haven't used the Atom line yet.

Nice project and great find. Hard to obtain one of those cheap anywhere. Will you be doing another tank rather than the polar bear 432 example which with the exception of one in our club is the only JS-2 anybody seems to do?

Great find. Looks like there was lots of bits still to go on when you received it. Neat and tidy hull!

This Tamiya one hasn't been available for a while--perhaps since 2013. I saw one somewhere, built, but not well-built. I would be a great go-with for the M60.
