Music from my youth

So was joking a bit with our new member VVhitesnake about the actual band Whitesnake.

But while perusing videos I got reeled into watching some of my pure unadulterated musical vice from my early high school days back in the 80's. Ohh yes you guessed it Hair Metal! Now I like a very broad spectrum of music from Metal to Classical to Punk to Electronica, Grunge, New Wave, Jazz, Industrial, House, Hard Core and even Folk. And yes I can even appreciate the Beetles on a good day. But Man listening to these Bands got me waxing nostalgic with the wifey as she came into the living room to see what the heck was going on with me blasting our favorite tunes from back in the day. Videos were and the scene was just so much fun back then. Now before someone gets all Hair Metal Nerd on me, Van Halen wasn't Hair Metal, but every Hair Metal band copied the clothes, the hair and the life-is-a-party lyrics, only with lesser musicianship.

Cool thread Mr. Chef.

Music is one of the things I'm more OCD about than tanks. But 14-17 puts me 1970 -> 1974 so the absolute peak of classic and progressive rock. So doubt anybody wants to hear those as they are so overplayed. But I became even more obsessed with all types of music up until about 1998. For instance the videos you posted I was still rocking out and loved that period. I'll post up some of my faves from 1970-1974 that aren't ridiculously obvious if they have videos for them

I can do Prog Rock with the best of em. I grew up in the 70's just younger than you. My family was definitely into music. At very young, my Dad used to play classical all the time. I got my dose of the Beach Boys from him too. Mom was a Big Beatles fan. As for the Prog rock I listened to Floyd and Genesis, a good dose of Jethro Tull then Rush. I never abandoned Prog and always appreciate it. I have always been a big fan of Peter Gabriel after he left Genesis and have all of his solo stuff. I prefer his early stuff like "Melt". As for more recent Prog, I am a die-hard fan of Tool. I can't appreciate this Dream theater stuff though.

And I guess this is the best time to mention it. I hate Jam bands. The Dead and Pish and anything like it just annoy me to no end.

Yea although I was mostly a total metal and hard rock fan in those days you didn't have to decide to be pigeonholed. If something was good i liked it. Although at the time this was country to me it was a fantastic song and I recognized it as so

This one sneaks in as 1974 because although LRB are Australian Ric Formosa the amazing lead guitarist who came in hungover and did the whole thing in one take in one go grew up in Montreal so was regarded as CanCon for radio. The 4+ minute version that was released in 1975 for US radio was probably the worst butcher job of a great long song ever. Was no fan of LRB after this though

and then there is Hawkwind my favourite band from that time. I had never heard of them but this single paid for the Space Ritual tour and I was by good fortune over in Liverpool and my friends bought me a ticket to go to the Liverpool concert with them that ended up funding Space Ritual Live that was every Brit stoners album of the year

Marshall Tucker is Southern Rock.

You're right I've never heard that 8 minute version by the Little River Band

AnnnnnD Ohhhh Yeah Lemmy doing a great job in Hawkwind. I wonder how high they all were in that video? Very cool song and cooler video seeing Lemmy so young.
