Tanker or Infantryman. What would you choose ?

I might be wrong, but during WW2 some tank crews managed to bail out of their tanks after being hit. Looking at that Javelin hit though, you have no chance what so ever. From what I have read, even if the tank has reactive armour fitted, the javelin can even overcome that and still destroy the tank.

I guess the guy in the future who invents the electronic force field/shield stands to make a fortune in doing so, assuming of course that person isn't working for a major corporation at the time!

I was looking around on Google Earth, and decided to go and see what Afghinistan and Iraq look like. It looks like troops are posting vids from various locations. Talk about a barren country. Jeez.

There is one of a rather dodgy helicopter landung on the side of a mountain. The pilot can't land so he backs up a twin rotor heli, drops the rear wheels onto the side, then the rear door opens and the troops pile out. Amazing stuff, but I can't find it again!

This one is interesting, you can hear the bullets zipping over heads.

..and for anyone who has watched the 'Sniper of Bagdhad' videos on the web, it isn't going to make a lot of difference whether you are in a tank or walking the streets?

Different footage same scenario, its what the heli pilots train for I guess. As to how they know exactly where those rotor tips are is anyone's guess, one sneeze and a nudge of the cyclic and its game over.

Hats off to these guys, I couldn't even fly an RC one without crashing it almost every time I took it out??

Steiner, in todays world, the chances of surviving a hit with such a weapon in a modern MBT or other AFV are slim. The impact is so catastrophic as to make bailing out virtually impossible. Destruction is in micro seconds.
However, there is still a viable place for armour in today's, and tomorrow's, Army. When push comes to shove, and you have no AT rockets, mines, wine bottles filled with petrol, or ham bone to shove in the sprockets, assuming you have been able to discourage the accompanying infantry, the tank is still king of the battlefield. Is he omnipotent? No, and never was. Is he dangrous? Oh heck yeah. But then, so is an 18 year old kid with a pig and a couple belts of 7.62 in his grubby little hand, albeit in a somewhat different way.
Again. I'll walk, thank you, and take my chances with the kid and his pig, hoping my experience and treachery will overcome his youth and enthusiasm.

HE LIVES!!! Slava Bogu!! And was that young Specklespatz Langeschwanz in the copilot seat??? And where did Pikelsnatcher get the pink flight suit?? Why was there an empty chicken crate in the back of the chopper? The plot thickens. I see the fine hand of (dare I say it?) Thatcherina in the fracas in Afghan. She's been there before.. the Sovs remember her well, and not fondly.
Last I heard of our good Sgt, he was waiting tables here in Sevastopol at the O Club at Flot Hdqt...Ukraine Flot, that is, O Club being roughly the size..and oder..of a one hole privy. Heard they caught him for spying...again.., and he was to be shot at dawn a month ago...if the Ukr Flot could find two working AK's, 2 Marines who know how to use one, and pay for a cartridge. Budget for them is tight. Last I knew the Ukr Flot was still arguing over exactly when "dawn" is.
And at this moment I would aver Sgt Pikelsnatcher is wishing he was infantry.
