So I have just received my Panther V. Should it have ab antenna? I have seen videos and pictures with it fitted and without! Is it an option part?

If it's the modern 6.0/7.0 Heng Long or Taigen/Torro then no, it won't have an external antenna anymore. Not used on a 2.4Ghz based tank. Those old metal antennas are for the now antiquated FM systems.

nor sure on the panther ian but by KTs 2.4ghz version but still came with the external metal aerial i guess mainly to keep the signal away from interference inside the tank

Wire antenna is the Stone Age!
And they continue to supply it with the product....
The working part of the antenna, both the transmitter and the receiver, is 31 mm.
And this is not a metal pin.
Plastic is not an obstacle for radio waves.
The only case when modelers take THIS piece of the antenna outside the body is if it is made of carbon or metal.

Usually they give you an aesthetic antenna, so the model looks like the real thing, but there is no functional purpose to it.

Like others have said, the function antenna is usually contained within the MFU inside the model.
