Toro king tiger

Post by tomhugill »

Yet another bedraggled cat! Found on eBay france for a very reasonable price. Gearboxes were pot metal and junked and had been pulled apart but seemed to have most of the bit.

When I got it all I was missing was a couple of track links. I got rid of the pot metal gearboxes and went of a set of Mato ball raced steel ones I had in my bits box.

Rebuilt the wheels and idlers and borrowed the spare links off the turret to make up the tracks.

Due to Toro/taigens bizarre choice to tool a body with zimmerit and turret without it I chose to crack out the putty and a screwdriver, pour myself a stiff drink (only kidding but I got through a few episodes of halo!) and get cracking. It's definitely got a more field applied feeling but I'm too stingy to shell out for atak stuff just for the turret.

She will be getting an electronics upgrade, servo elevation and recoil and afew detail parts to get it to a similar level to the tamiya one I'm doing currently ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I think that the somewhat more ragged rows of Zimmerit on the turret seem more realistic than the neatly aligned rows.

I agree on that! Sadly it's a bit of a pain to redo the hull

Brilliant king tiger that. I have got the taigen hull and metal turret from forgebear and totally agree on the zimmerit. Why do the hull in zimmerit and not the turret? Wtf.

Can I ask tom if you know if the atak sheets will fit the taigen turret? I have done the putty a couple of times now but I just can't be arsed this time .

That's where I got to with mine, couldn't justify just using the turret pieces, putty is messy and repetitive but it's cheap!

Thanks all, some food for thought! Either pull what little hair I have out and save some cash or bite the bullet and save my time with cash.
