Thanks, Saxondog.  There were several coats of Dullcote along the way, to seal the pastels.  I think the last one killed the dust!  The picture tells me that I need to do something about the tracks though.  I was hoping that they'd just get dirty with real dirt.

While I'm digressing OT... IMO, the working barrel chain is the best piece from the Impact PE set-- very kewl.! I installed WeCoHe hatches front & back, but I locked the rear turret hatch because it kept popping open; The front hatches kept falling open when I was working on the upper hull, but they give access to the lighting switch.  I also did the servo-switchable hull LED MG/coax laser MG, mounted external volume pot in one of the rear deck round doo-dads and added bunches of lead weights to the turret to counterbalance the main gun. I also replaced the electronics with a MF05 (PzkwIV) so it didn't sound exactly like my KT. Impact TU, sprockets & tracks, upgraded recoil, Graupner Speed 400s w/12 tooth pinion.  It's been a fun (and expensive) build!

jb1,did you happen to use the impact 12tooth pinion gears with the set screws? I have had trouble with pinion gear slipping on my Tiger(3:1 gruapner speed 400)and ordered new gears from impact, they have not arrived so have not been able to test.Blake(sorry jumags I should have PM jb1)

[Yes-- The 12-tooth pinions make the Panther run a little faster, which is desirable since I installed the 3-1 drop down gear. They're also steel gears, which wear better with the Impact TU's steel gears.  Brass pinions will get eaten up by steel gears if the gear mesh isn't optimal; I imagine that the converse is true if your gearbox has brass gears.]

To keep this about the OP's question:  An alternative to Tamiya's Red Brown is Vallejo's "German Cam. Pale Brown 70825".  The Vallejo paints (and craft paints) are easier to brush paint than Tamiya's, since they come in squeeze bottles and have a less volatile carrier-- they don't dry as soon as you put them on the palette!  They also thin well for airbrush, although I'd strain craft paints through a nylon stocking before use since they sometimes have airbrush-clogging clumps.
