Just pick a tank that is interesting to you. HL tanks come with bad paint jobs and molded surface detail instead of detailed separate pieces and brass etched grates. Maybe look and see what upgrade parts are on sites like rctank.de, ToucanHobby, RC Tank Legion, there’s some others too. Toucan Hobby sells HL tanks that come with metal running gear and custom lower metal hulls with torsion bars for around $800. If you want to start off with a HL Pro tank for around $300 you can always buy the metal lower chassis from ToucanHobby fort around $500 or so.
Most of the internal stuff is not tank specific, so you could put the same stuff in most any tank. The biggest consideration here is what kind of card you want. HL’s TK7.1 isn’t bad, you can do quite a bit with them these days, but only comes with 2 or 3 options for sound sets. Usually a WWII or modern sound set, nothing specific to a particular tank. You can also look at aftermarket cards like Clark (supposedly making new product), Beier, and Elmod. These cards will allow you to grow your tank in an electronics sense. You can add all the surface detail you want, but if you want to add servo controller turret controls, a weapon station, gun smoke, sound sets, servos that open hatches or doors, battle units, laser targeting, aftermarket radios and receivers, this is all going to be dependent on what kind of card you are rocking with. There is a whole electronic sub forum here you can look at.
But yeah, just start with picking a tank you like. Then you can build from there.

Yeah...you can find Clark info on this little known website called....Facebook. If you want I can look up the link for you...I think it's www.facebook.com. If you can find Facebook you might be able to see the new products. The group name is difficult to find and kinda strange, "CLARK MODEL user group".

Yeah I don’t have a FaceBook account, maybe that’s why I never saw it. I always went to the people that were supposed to be their US distributor, but almost everything has been sold out on there for the past 3 years https://dakrctank.com/shop/category/electronics/clark/. The Clark website that has all the information on their products also directs you to that site as their US distributor. I didn’t see anything about FB on there either.tankme wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 2:59 amYeah...you can find Clark info on this little known website called....Facebook. If you want Clark Matomart is their Canadian distributor. We are a Clark club and everybody is getting them through Matomart. The prices are very reasonable. Even being originally a Tamiya guy with some IBU mixed I'm all Clark on my non Tamiyas now. Here is just the page on say a Tiger 1. You have a choice of the TK22A which is a great board for driving heavy tanks and then there is the TK50S and TK50ESP which have better audio, I have no idea what I'm doing with them but other guys in the club set them up for me. They can get you ones set up for all sorts of tanks if you ask

I'm not a big fan of FB for the original FB purpose, but for tank info it's pretty good. As far as DAK goes, yeah the TK60 (discontinued), TK40 (probably also discontinued), and the TK80 is out of stock. The one most used now days the TK50 is in stock (just checked) as SBus which is the better one. Kenny is a nice guy and I've talked to him multiple times on FB messenger. He's ordered anything I've wanted even if he doesn't stock it.Jib wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 4:12 amYeah I don’t have a FaceBook account, maybe that’s why I never saw it.
