4/10 Some important US military events occurred

1864 - General Robert E. Lee disperses the Army of Northern Virginia.
He rejected Pres. Jefferson Davis's order to form a guerrilla army to continue
the war.

1941 - The Bataan Death march begins after the fall of Corregidor and the
Bataan Peninsula.

Perhaps in doing so, Lee may have prevented much more death and suffering that would have happened with continued violence.

RE Lee believed in honor. His army fought honorably.
They lost honorably.
He didn't want the AONV to degenerate into and be remembered as a band of bushwhacking
murderers.
