...and if possible at all, help nearby. I gave up the chainsaw in 2010 after twenty years. A tree leaning decidedly east, with most branches toward the east, in a west wind, notched on the east side with a falling cut on the west--fell north while I looked at it saying, "Why you s... of... a..." and then realized that those might not be the wisest last words.

Had to drop three trees this year. Two were well away from anything so no fear of where they fell (and I was surefooted enough to run in the correct direction). The last tree HAD to be dropped in one direction, the rest of the directions meant surrounding damage. Lots of straps, chain, heavy truck and sheer luck had it dropped where I wanted it (oh, and I had a friend who has been felling trees for 25 years - I did what he said).
