Re: My Tiger 1 Normandy build
What a fantastic job Sir. I also have a Tamiya T1 in the queue that will require all of your mods so I’m loving the info.
Your Zimmerit is great, the newer stuff a bit better but overall once completed will be in noticeable.
I too have a philosophy of “ it’s not a race “ but getting them finished is a powerful force!

Re: My Tiger 1 Normandy build
Hello Chris,
great work here, that's modelling and it can be so much fun.
There are always challenges that keep you positively occupied.
About the steel cable.......as I said, it's no secret, please take a look at the www or youtube to see how the ropes are made, in my case I used a brass wire as the core, around which the four other brass wires are then twisted evenly.
You could also buy thin steel cable from the DIY store, fix it to a board with nails, then anneal it with a blowtorch.
You can then bend the rope in any direction and it will stay as you have bent it.
happy modelling,Guido

Re: My Tiger 1 Normandy build
Unfortunately the metal drivers hatch hinge snapped while masking it for priming so I'll probably fix it closed

Good old zamak!
Re: My Tiger 1 Normandy build
So today's update is an unplanned day on the Tiger. I was supposed to be out in my Land Rover with friends exploring Dorset's country lanes, but I woke up with a sore throat and mild headache so decided to stay home. Just as well I didn't go because my friend hydrolocked his engine wading a ford.
I've been working on the deck and rear hull. The cable mounts have been resolved - I set the Aber threaded pins into the square section with epoxy resin and have drilled out resin wing nuts to fix on top. Hopefully they will be robust enough.
The jack mount is a mix of the original Tamiya metal clip with the Aber support brackets, and resin closers with wing nuts glued to the end of each Tamiya clip.
Tonight the red primer is going on. Progress!

This is turning out to be a very nice and highly detailed model. I thought cutting down 160 dress pins for rivets on a crusader was bad but what you are doing here I wouldn’t have the patients for
It’s your tank it’s what you make it
