Detail up of OVM fastening belt of Sherman tank

Post by kintaroukinji »

I used brass strips and brass wire to detail the OVM fastening belt of the Sherman tank. The belt in the photo is unpainted.

Good work! Those straps look fine! Have you ever scratch-built the mountings for the tow cable? I'd like to see ideas on how to do so.

Yes I also scratch built the mounting for the tow cable on this Sherman tank. The mounting metal fittings (made of brass band plate) on the front of the tank can be removed during maintenance (when removing the upper hull).

After that, I painted the OVM fastening band reddish brown.

Thank you! Those are exactly the kind of fasteners I need to make for a vintage Mato plastic Sherman I have. So one of these days, among more projects than I can count, I will get to that one. I have the metal cables ready to go.
Your stowage and tools are well done. The packs on the turret, for example, actually have a credible "field installed" mounting rail, as opposed to be just mysteriously fastened. The wooden tool handles could have a slight gloss to them (especially when new) because some handles were just sprayed or dipped in lacquer during production. Others were sprayed good ol' Olive Drab.
