King tiger HL lower hull with Taigen upper hull

Post by Kyoz84 »

So I have a taigen King tiger upper hull. whats a good lower chassis? I priced the taigen lower hull with wheels gear box and all other accessories at 340$ or i can get the HL king tiger with full metal wheels, tracks, idler wheels and gear box for 308$ with the TK 7.0.
Any other recommendations? Pros and cons? Image

All of the HL, Taigen and Toros are virtually interchangeable. Electronics tend to be somewhat compatible but there have been so many versions made that it is a bit more difficult swapping. The v7 is the latest with a 1 & 2 available. Stick with a complete electronic package to save headaches (and hair). As far as metal or plastic lowers, it really is up to you. I've two metal lower tanks and somewhere in the teens that are plastic. I do add some stiffening to many of my tanks, but that is quite simple to do. I may start a chassis stiffening idea thread soon.

My opinion of course, and there are other ideas....

I do not see any particular advantage in fitting a Heng Long abs hull to a Taigen abs body and metal turret,
I am not aware of the Heng Long hull even having a quick release unlike Taigens and unlike Taigen' Heng Long's hull is only available in abs.
Whatever abs hull you fit the abs body and metal turret too the hull will need reinforcing,
So I would Fit the Taigen body to a Taigen metal hull BUT as the Irish say I would not be starting from here,
My first choice would be an abs Heng Long body and abs turret on a Metal Taigen hull,
That way I would be getting what I consider the better Heng Long electronics with a hull that reduces flex AND has a quick release.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

I have three Heng Long King Tigers, one I haven't checked, but two are like this, and this is why I would think twice about using a Heng Long KT chassis without heavy modification.

For the reason Son of a Gunner illustrates, I would go with the Taigen (or Torro, same thing) lower hull. As for the electronics, it's tough. I by far prefer the Taigen/Torro V3 board and sound modules over HengLong's sound, but the newer HengLong 6.0 and later control is much more flexible and better at low speed. If you are up to it, see if you can get a Taigen lower hull and add aftermarket electronics. If you ask here on RCTW which aftermarket electronics are best, you can watch the fireworks fly. :P But you will see some, at least a bit, of agreement on which to avoid.

+1 that this is a real issue. My HL T1 had so much camber that the majority of the outside road wheels didn't touch the track.
