Crusader Tank new build

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

I struggled with tracks for my Crusader build - used Panzer 3 then ground down the sides. Scale tracks should be 17mm wide - my cut down ones are 19mm. Bit of a tedious job as had to be done with Dremel cutting/grinding disks.

It had a very low profile (not much over 7 ft tall), making it harder to target, and displayed early adoption of sloped surfaces- but one in front of the mantlet would certainly have helped. Also, I suspect the Inward sloping turret sides might have directed incoming rounds to vulnerable deck/roof plates. :O
But for mechanical woes, which could have been resolved and time been available, and HE-capable 2-pounder rounds it would have performed better than it did in the desert. In the event, it showed the Italians the way home and had early successes against the Afrika Korps.
A six-pounder- at the outset- and with which it was equipped later, would have given it plenty of punching power too.
Like you, Kaczor, I think it's a pretty neat design- notwithstanding its service history. :problem:

I thought DKLM RC had Churchill tracks since they do the 3D printed Churchill?

Just discovered this, I'm not sure it will work but I'm going to try it

For £3 it's worth a shot!

That track is double guide tho, the Crusader is a single center guide horn.

Honestly I'm inclined to go with cut down Pz 3 tracks, the Panzer IV sprocket is only slightly larger than the Crusader's

Looks like this - just have to print it

At 11 minutes per track thats not great but maybe I can print thicker layers and reduce that without quality issues

Hi Alwyn,
the track link looks terrible.... stringing without end and the filling level is too low.
But I think they are prototypes. :haha:
