360 turret rotation

Post by Topper »

Hello
I converted my Torro Tiger 1 to a 360 turret rotation today, the rotation motor labours to rotate the turret, on the Taigen Tiger 1 kit I build the upper hull has little wheels in the hull to help with rotation, can I buy these wheels? or is there anything else I can do to help with rotation of the turret?
Thanks in advance

Hi, You can buy a Tiger 1 turret base with 3 sets of steel balls to aid the rotation of the turret, well worth the investment.
Try Dave at www.forgebeartanks.com
He may not have it in stock but I wager he knows how to get hold of one for you so talk to him.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Hi, Topper,
It's odd because Torro while nearly identical to Taigen, usually has a small lead in detailing and functional features on their respective tanks. Could be a different version of the same tank, Pro vs Metal (or however they label their series now). Anyway, a great Builder on here named Sassgrunt came up with the idea of cutting turret bearing / glide rings out of clear, binder divider sheets. If you do not want to drill for bearings or ring mounts, give those a try.

Topper,
Sass might see this and answer himself, otherwise, measure the diameter of the inner and outer contact surface on your turret. Get a divider sheet and a protracter with x-acto blade attached and scribe those two circles in the divider. Remove excess material and take the remaining ring and set it on the deck of your tank and remount the turret. Should remove a lot of the friction that you are experiencing there.

if I understand correctly, this is the principle used by Tamiya on the Sherman turret??

Jofaur,
Hello and No. This is something that Sassgrunt came up with to be a cheap and easy fix for binding turrets ( Usually Heng Long ) I've never owned a Tamiya Sherman so cannot say which type of turret rotation aide that they use. Could be ball bearings like the Tiger but I cannot say. Someone here on the Forum will know, I am sure.

Thank you, for the answer, it's a kind of adhesive and translucent sheet, at least on the Sherman, have a nice weekend
