IS-2 "BRUTE OF THE PROLETARIAT"

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Dr Phibes wrote:Herman, it's certainly coming along now! The gun metal undercoat looks like a very interesting approach indeed. I never thought of doing that to underpin the shading and modulation for 4BO but I will certainly try it the next time I do a Soviet build.
Looking forward to the next instalment...
Neither was I until I tried it because I ran out of an alternative :problem:
Certainly was not a scientific plan at the time I first did it, but it works.
Oh dont get me wrong, when it first goes on, there is a strong scent of "i've ^%$%'d this up" but it comes good once you cover it.

Thanks Mr Jhamm!! I was a bit apprehensive about putting it into the translation device but I’m very happy you approve ;)
Still lots to do but at least it’s going as I hoped it would

I took the big Comrade down the driveway today, just to see everything was in order, and to wear the paint of the track contact points !
Even with the large amount of slack in the tracks, it ran like a Swiss watch.
Through very long grass and in & around a very rough patch of dirt & small stones.
Flawless.
Moving on with a bit of dusting, chipping & accessory fit up tonight.
Had a house full of kids & Mums today, so no chance to get out & get small bolts for the spare tracks on the hull front. :(
I still am not allowed to drive, so I cant duck out and do it myself :/

Thanks Mr Kaczor !, thats a real dag !
At the same time Uncle Joe offers a cookie, he sends Beria around to accuse me of eating to much food & that making me an enemy of the people !! :/ :/

Appreciate your encouragement ;)

I will get better pics in daylight soon, but this is where the big fella is at the moment.
The tow cables are the next thing to tick off, just got to find a place for them that looks right.
I used the sponge chipping method to get bits in high traffic areas looking a bit worn, and its ok.
A Vallejo 69035 chipping brown was my go-to on this & while its an ok look for me, but certainly nothing on the work of 'Night Shift' or his kindred :lolno:

Thanks Mr Wigbearer, I think the initial shock of some high-dollar plastic going in the bin has worn off a bit now !
Shes getting the final concept of what a JS in late war cities may have looked like.
(Nah, not really- its an expensive toy that I've just torn apart) :/

Got the tow cables in a spot I think is ok and suits the look & theme, but they are not fixed yet so I can easily change my mind.
Another thing is that Im so used to having tanks that get batteries changed from under the hull that I need to remember that this one opens up.
No use attaching things top to bottom as that would be a 'moment' :problem:
Could not get small bolts across the suppliers today so its off to the online stores unfortunately.

Mucking around with looted furniture and a Cognac barrel as stowage !
Not sure whats going to end up on it yet, I also have a choice of 2 different style pianos :O
I get that 202 did not have this visible on its deck in the period picture, but thats the fun of 'modeling- licence' !
