general purpose trailers for the VW Kubel.

Post by jarndice »

I have looked long and hard for a General Purpose Trailer for the VW Kubel with no success, When one considers how popular such trailers were with Allied light GP Vehicles such as the Jeep I am surprised at the apparent absence of one or am I yet again mistaken :lolno:
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Had you considered scratch building one? I find model shop 2nd hand bits and bobs shelves very handy for wheel sets etc. When l needed a Russian general purpose tanker trailer l found materials from DIY and charity shops most useful. Russia often used agricultural vehicles where appropriate. The most expensive item was the tiny custom printed decals. A small open cart should be simple enough?

Terrible photos, but you get the idea?ImageImage

Or maybe the WCP fuel trailer with scratch built sides and wood floor (field modification) could be an option.

Thank you for replying so speedily BUT I am interested in a general purpose trailer such as the British and American single axle 1/4 ton trailer and I have seen nothing like it in any pictures of German Army light vehicles.
I could adapt a 1/4 ton trailer but I cannot do that if I don't know what to look for.

That looks about right John and being pretty much just a box on an axle with a pair of simple shock absorbers it should be relatively simple to build.
Thank you
