VK 16.02 Leopard

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Hi all,

Because I'm going to use the classical gearboxes of Heng Long (long shaft), I also modelled them for place in position and take care of distances, support structures, etc: This 3D model (right side gearbox) fits on Heng Long Panther G:

A unique and interesting project, Edumardo! I'll be following along with interest, your CAD drawings look great. Looking forward to seeing more!

I've always thought that the Luchs is like a baby Panther and the Leopard is like a baby KT. ;)

WoW, fantastic job! You have set the bar really high ;)

It seems you used a panther hull trimed, right? What about the turret? Is It from scratch? The wooden barrel is a very good idea for this inusual model.

Thanks for sharing, It Will be a reference without a doubt.

Hi there Edumardo

The Hull bottom and bavk plate were the base for the build ... as well as the engine deck

The turret is scratch built from plastic card as is the rest of the Hull

Fortunately the bk 16.02 is a fairly simple build but the secret is the detailing that makes this

I remember enjoying the build.. and the model now lives in New York in a collectors privet collection

Ps the gun barrel was actually a modellers paint brush as it had a nice taper ....

Hi,

Continuing with the suspension, the layout according to blueprint is sprocket + 5 overlapping wheels (2 doubles and 3 singles) + idler (copyright in the picture):

To ease the building, I will choose the following configuration: sprocket + 5 overlaping wheels (3 doubles and 2 singles) + idler. Hence I don't have to worry about the interference between the last overlaped and idler, and it will allow me to use the standard heng long tracks for Panther:
img_2015.jpg
In other words, a layout almost identical to Panther. Furthermore, and this is my personal opinion, beacuse it was a initial design of M.A.N (derived later to MIAG), we can assume the reuse of parts and designs from the Panther in its different versions. It is not unreasonable to think that if the Leopard had entered in production, it would have followed an evolutionary path similar to the Panther, inheriting and feeding back the improvements. This last guess will help me to take decisions based on the parent model.
