Panzer kaput! Tamiya Tiger 1 restoration.

Post by AGKPeiper »

Recently helping my wife with her late fathers shed full of tools and various projects I was heard to exclaim "thats a Tiger turret!".
Sure enough, following some digging I now have most of the exterior from a Tamiya Tiger 1.
As the images will show I have quite a bit of work to do.

I've found most of the missing external parts and have begun the work as can be seen from the unpainted areas.
Look out for me elsewhere on the forum as I have some questions.
Cheers all.

??? ah yes? it is much more complete than indicated on your other post ?? indeed there is the essential, mechanical part, engines, raising etreful barrel, turret rotation, it just lacks the electronic part, it is second-hand , or adapt another? Taigen for example, but the barrel recoil system is only compatible with Tamiya. Personally, I would take out the engines, to remove rust (fine bodywork sandpaper) possibly painting, checking the pinion assembly, lubrication, and live tests with a battery, make a wooden support, for the tests, so that the tank does not rest on its tracks, other members of the forum will certainly have other advice
gift, assembly instructions Tiger I, with reference to the various parts required

AGKP,

It's always amazed me where some people find their RC tanks! :wtf: I guess some guys are just lucky! Sorry about your Wife's late Father, perhaps a nice rebuild in his honor?

Cheers,
Eric.

Thank you guys.
The plan is to get the Panzer marching again.
I shall change little of the work my father in law did but will be building this to echo my requirements in an actual Tiger, preferring the Panther anyway.
So, no zimmerit as it burns and many crews didn't like it.
The most powerful cannon I can fit.
Light and fast.

Minimal progress on this but I shall keep the log moving.
Once payday arrives I shall buy the donor vehicle or parts from forgebear.
All I've been able to do so far is remove the track covers and seperate them ready for some extra realism and maybe some damage.

While doing this another possibly difficult task has come to the forefront of my thoughts. I need to match the existing paint.

Looks like a part of the fearful air filter on the turret bin

I thought that didn't belong there. It appeared to have been used to form the base of a makeshift aerial.

Limited progress.

Why don't you get it repaired then give it a dark yellow base coat and some new camo?
