Soviet M4A2 (75) Sherman

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Soviet M4A2 (75) Sherman

Post by Kaczor »

Hello. I'm starting conversion of HL Sherman to M4A2 (75) version used by Soviets via Lend Lease program. My "Emcha" will be from 114th Tank Regiment, 7th Guards Calvary Corps, Poland, summer 1944.
Changes will include Mato 75mm "low bustle" turret, new engine deck and exhaust system specific to diesel version. Nothing fancy in case of detailing, I just wanted Russian Sherman in my collection ;)
It will more or less look like that plus some stowage and tank riders.

I started with additional armour. Despite beeing "large hatch", those were still "dry" versions with additional plates added in factory. My welding skills are not the best...

Meanwhile i deleted pistol port and loader's hatch as they were not present in this particular tank.

Periscope guards are from Schumo Kits.

Looking great so far. Nice having a new build thread to follow and a tank that I’m unfamiliar with. Should be a learning experience.

Kaczor: I have a sizeable collection of books on the Sherman, and I never realized there was a turret with no loader's hatch. I have to look that up again! You can see that your build is worth showing. I have learned something already!

Webpage Sherman Minutia have more information than dozen books ;)

Early Shermans did not have a loader's hatch until the end of 1943.

Kaczor,

Once again I'm amazed at all the Sherman variants! This will be a refreshing and interesting build! Very cool!

Cheers,
Eric.

Thanks for the tips and links. Yes, I have had the Sherman Minutiae bookmarked for some time, but that video is new to me. I will try to view it later today. I read the comprehensive Son of Sherman cover-to-cover when it first was released. But my memory for detail is shaky at best.

Kaczor,

Thanks for the video! Now I need to slow it down to look at it frame by frame. Some very strange, mutant Sherman's on there! :wtf:

Cheers,
Eric.

Working on engine deck. Hinges need to be modified because now fuel caps wouldn't fit. Bolt heads are little too big but set of smaller size from Aber is too expensive.
