35RCTANK Stuart conversion kit

Post by lmcq11 »

Recent announcement from 35RCTANK of a 1/16 RC conversion kit for the Classy Hobby M5A1 Stuart static model . It is unclear from the picture how the kit will help converting the suspension, one of the main task to perform, but the small gearbox and turret electronics will certainly be helpful to many.

Here's the reply I received from SK today:
The M5A1 Stuart kit will be ready in 1-2 months. The workable suspension make use of the origin parts. Only two springs and a casing is added. I worry if it will be too fragile at first, but after testing it works fine.

Keep in mind that such conversion is fragile. From my own experience converting the M5, the base kit itself requires good builder skills. The assembly and the fragility of the plastic suspension and the tracks is still a major concern. Set your expectations for a table top RC vehicle that can operate on flat surfaces.

Hi Louis,

I've been wondering where you were, had not seen a post recently. I might have missed it.

After watching you're fantastic conversion of the M5, I'm hoping the "35 RC Tank" conversion will make it a bit easier. That will not however addressee the fragility issues and concerns.

My goal is to convert one of the M5s to an M3. That will prove to be challenging so I hope the conversion set will ease some of the "pain"! I can see that the motor/gearbox installation will need modification as the slope of the glacis plate is very different than the M5. It is good to see that converting the turret to the rounded M3 style will not affect their design on the turret electronic/mechanical fit, I hope! ;)

I "plan" on converting my second M5 kit to a M4 High Speed Tractor.

Hi Barry, Its been crazy at the office. But only a few weeks left and i am officially "Retired" end of April, just in time for my outdoor modelling and relaxation season. Can't wait. But i do have a few RC boats in the planning stage (1/35 Elco PT boat, 1/200 Bismarck and 1/350 Nimitz) and will not be as active for a while in the tank business as i used to be.
