painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Well,I finally was able to move from my second Base coat to the scibbling and pastel stage of this lesson. For those that do not relieze I STARTED with OZ and STEINER on this weathering indevore.I was not happy with the camo pattern and stripped and restarted. This time I am not doing camo but the Tiger1 I am modeling is the S13 from FEB.1943 as delivered to the 9threg.GROSSDEUTCHLAND DIV.These first 9 TIGER were early model and delivered in panzer grey. They were given white outlined numbers for three companies. My tank being 1st company 3RD tank. Here are some pictures.SAXONDOG

These are the next step of appling the pastel coloring to weather the Tank. This helps in the reality of how machines, and specailly Tanks in Russia during the Snow and Rain of FEB.1943. would have evidence of their hard use and the effect of the wet conditions. Saxondog

Sax,
Thats starting to look really good, you can see how the pastels are starting to bring out the detail. Are you using Testor enamel paints or are you using acrylics ? Great job, I'm looking forward to seeing more.

I have started on spraying the Klear gloss coat on mine. Then, I will decal it. I will get some pics on as soon as I can. I know how you and Oz like lots of pics
Cheers
STEINER

Do you realize how much I hate this uniform and all it stands for. ( Cross of Iron )
Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
I did two coats of the clear floor polish last night,I found low psi 10-15 worked best and misting as it will pool and run.I had a run but was able to dab a paper towel over it and absorbed the run.Do not wipe if it runs, just let the towel soak it up.The second coat made everthing a nice even finish but I found it darkened my rust color pastel to more of a orange brown.I hope the ronseal will bring back some of the orange color.I will post pictures tonight of the clear floor polish and it's effect.I allowed 30-45 minutes between coats.Oz had suggested 20-30 but to be honest I DOSED off and my son woke me to do the second coating. That's all for now do post some pictures Steiner so I may see your progress and compare with mine. Also since we are each using the same method but are in early and late model base colors this will help this lesson to now cover all fronts.Blake a.k.a.saxondog

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Foregot to mention I am using Testers Model Master German Armor Series, they seem different to me from other Grey Tanks I've seen but according to testers they are correct to Germen Military. My base color is Schwarzgrau 39-42,I used Grau rlm02,which is a lite grey for the scribbling. This seems to of worked better for me,as in trying to thin the Schwarzgrau or mixing liter colors with it just did not seem the right tone.I think the Grau-rlm02 worked out pretty well. For the dry brushing I need some help on choosing the right paint.Since so-far all the paint work is enamel paints.I have such a large amount of testers paints from ship modeling,I should have switched to tamiya,as 6 of my ships are Tamiya models. But old habits die hard.Sax

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
now thats starting to take shape very nicely" the floor-polish will darken the rust down but give it another going over just before the 1st ronseal Matt coat and it'll pull the color through again, remember to give your tiger a couple more coats of floor-polish to get it nice and glossy.

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
hi sax.
testers are good paints to use, the reason behind this is ( hope i explain this right ) they are about the right color scale, i used tamiya panzer Grey on my tiger but to paint the model just plain panzer gray from the jar wouldn't look right because tamiya paints correspond with the paint on a full size vehicle where testers scale down their paint colors to suit scale models better, i would have preferred to use testers myself but getting then here is sometimes hard.................cheers oz

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Thanks Oz,I am glad to see you know about the scaling of testers paints,at the local shop(which has been their for 20yrs+) the Testers paint rack has the scale chart which directs the color number by scale.they don't list 1/16 but do list 1/18 which is the scale reference I am using. And they have three sections for armor British,us,German.Well anyway I like how things are shaping up but am a little concerned that the pastel shade has darkened and seems more brown than rust. The motor grills I used a black with a little orange red mix and this seems to be about right.Did you say that after ronseal you could apply more pastel,or am I mistaken? Please advise Sax.

Re: painting/weathering panzer Grey.
Sorry for the late reply,It's like in the picture. My pastels were more orange mainly on the turret top. This seems to of darkened alot, where as the hull seems to of retained more of a rust color?Maybe it's just fine and the weathering or rather the dry brushing will high lite the more orange tone I was attempting to get.the more I look at it the more I AM UNSURE of how to proceed.I did not get to work on the tank tonight,I will apply another coat of clear tomorrow afternoon and be on line be 7CST,which will be late for you guy's,so OZ if you could explain the dry brushing as it relates to my Tanks needs it will help me feel more confident to go forward.I just don't want to bugger it up so to speak,no more stripping. At this stage I am sure with a little adjustment it will come out fine.SAX
