So after putting some curves on my girl to make her more like WWII pin-up Jane Russell, I'm frankly disappointed to have to make her look a little like Frankenstein's Bride. Shermans of my generation (dry ammo stowage + post-Italy) had applique armour patches applied in the factory or in the 'field' in the case of many M4A1s stockpiled for D-Day.

Strike up a first attempt at doing weld lines with Milliput.

Image

My welds are not as good as this fine chap. (Fun fact - did you know some welding rods used to contain asbestos in the flux...)

Image

There will be more on the side of the turret - then she will have a swollen jaw...

So it was time to move on to the rear of the upper hull. Here is where we left it.

Image

Time to ditch the Mato tools, the plastic taillight guards and fill the holes. Made some new tool mounts and taillight guards from brass. Also took the opportunity to tidy up the rear deck vents that used to sit on top of the hull. They are now recessed into the hull and have mesh grills and proper bolt head detailing. I also put in an undercut in the rear of the hull.

Image

I also replaced the deck engine hatch blobs with bolt head details. A lick of primer ties it all together. Just need to add the hand crank mounting points and lifting rings.

Thank you. Good to know people are interested. I'm a fan of German armour, but looking at RC Shermans made me do some research, which is half the fun. The first movie I saw at the cinema without my parents was Kelly's Heroes, so I guess Shermans were waiting to pop out of my subconscious at some stage.

Yes. This build is going well

Personally, I blame this forum for my interest in Sherman's, there's so much you can do to them to make every one different from another.

Just because we are not posting, doesn't necessarily imply we aren't following with interest 8)

Yeah, it's only those of us brought up with manners that let you know the posting isn't wasted ;)

I’m glad yours is coming along. I’m at a standstill on mine. Lower hull is done turret is getting there but with Germany’s lock down Ludwig is experiencing delays with his resin parts so still no upper hull for me. So I thought what the hell I will order a doza blade for my 105 and a cromwell being as though I have had to email him anyway
