Trying to decide is driving me mad.

Post by Basin79 »

So I decided I wanted a "proper" rc tank. Little did I know just how insanely difficult that decision would be.

I keep going back and fourth to Forgebear, then over to youtube, then back.

I've gone from wanting a Tiger. Then it was between a Tiger and a Leopard. Now it's a Tiger, King Tiger, Jagdtiger, Panzer IV winter camo with the wide winter tracks and the much more modern Leopard.

Tanks are either Taigen or Torro and IR.

I have read in here that the Panzer IV suspension isn't particularly good so that put a dampener on that a little which is a shame as the actual tank looks incredible.

The Tiger is just an icon and again from reading on here seems to be the tank that many start with.

The King Tiger looks immense, the turret wobble less so.

Jagdtiger is just a behemoth. It looks absolutely incredible and with the sheer size of it and all of the space it has both on and around it would let me buy/make loads of bits of decor to make it "mine".

Now the Leopard surprised me with it being modern and all. But it looks absolutely amazing and having seen it running in youtube videos runs amazing. To be honest I think it's the suspension that's got me hooked.

I'll add I'm purchasing a RTR tank so I don't have to mess around. Absolute authentic paintwork, decals, or deco isn't important to me. Well it isn't yet. I'm just after a tank that looks great and runs great.

I appreciate this is a personal decision but any help or info on the above tanks that might help me narrow down my list would be greatly appreciated.

My favorite tank is the PZ IV. But I would not recommend it in 1/16 RC tanks due to the horrible suspension... Great for hardwood/short carpet/ashphalt/concrete... Or pretty much anything when going forwards... Backwards it likes to eat/bend suspension springs, especially in grass...

If you are plunking down decent coin, get something with a torsion bar suspension (Taigen metal lowers, etc... PZ-III, Tiger/KT/Panther/KV-1/etc...) You'll never look back.
IMHO for looks not including my favorite looking... PZ III, King Tiger, KV-1/2, Panther, Leo2.

Cheers. So that's the Panzer IV gone from the list.

If it was between 2 I would as the coin always let's you know what you really want.

Well you might. Although that torsion bar suspension is excellent you may end up with a damaged idler setup. The tensioner there can be disformed and the idlers would skew inwards. Then it’s a no go tank. It does however take some time on grass and sand. And some snow too. I understand this is the only problem with that lower hull. I just made a full replacement for my Tiger 1. Saw that as the best option.

Started as a tank man.
2x early Tiger 1's made from parts of HL, Taigen, Mato and whatever I saw suitable.

To be honest I do think I should shelve the Leopard. Beautiful tank but being modern it does lack character in favour of out and out perfection.

Cheers.

The TaigenTorro (metal edn.) T34/85 looks good, runs well, and has a neat interior, with a quick release for access to the interior. It's one of best presented RTR tanks out there, I think, so long as it's the upmarket model.

When purchasing these tanks. A lot of it is luck of the draw. Because it all depends whether it was the 8 or 12 year old that assembles your tank

Some people have had problems with exactly the same model that others have had no problems with.

And for my money, even though it came unpainted, and without any control electronics, the Taigen M4A3 76 is an excellent trouble free runner
