I agree with Herman, that really is an interesting technique. I think I might just have to try it out on a smaller scale.

I have seen Tissue paper used for cloaks and draping fabric in the same manner.

Works very well too, see pic 1. Liek Herman said, you can experiment a lot. The first time I saw this technique used it was Kitchen Towel and thinned down woodglue.PershingLover wrote:I agree with Herman, that really is an interesting technique. 1:16 was my scale. Until 'Konan' came into my life... an Armortek 1:6 Tiger 1!
... Now followed by a Panther G, 'Gunther'!
I'm a happy man.

I wanted the jack to be a very nice detailed piece, so I started working on it, but instead of improving it, I felt it started to look worse... These were my steps:
Then I decided the way to go was to try some chipping. I was never very good at such small details, but hey, if people can do it on 1/35 scal...
Light chips first...
Some darker spots in the middle:
Nope. Not happy (yet)!

Thank you for the step by step guide on realistic canvas/tarp technique, you make that look so realistic.

Now go try it yourself! Even if you don't have a fitting project yet, haha! It's fun to experiment with.Wildboar44 wrote:Thank you for the step by step guide on realistic canvas/tarp technique, you make that look so realistic.

Because I was not happy I tried to solve it. More experiments.
Overspray with with a thin layer of brown
If all else fails: Trackwash again hahaha!
Not at all unhappy in the end!

Jeez!! If you’re not happy with that there is no saving ya !!
So many techniques that we can all use in the smaller scale.
I guess you wouldn’t bother with adding pigment to running gear as the thing would pick up its own natural elements while running?
