Flower Class Corvette
Whilst at Blackpool Model Show and meeting some of the guys on here, my father was checking out some of the buys and bought himself a RC boat in need of some resto!
A 1/72 Revell Flower Class Corvette, it had apparently been built in 1987 and the electronics inside are oldskool, but look like mid to late 90s
It has a lead acid battery inside, but it has been sealed in! DOH!
But not to worry, after floating it it actually sits a little high, so we are going to cut the battery wires off and now power it with 2s lipo and upgrade the ship to 2.4ghz and have a play. With that in there it now brings the water line where it needs to be. So the battery is good ballast now!
There were several dirty, missing and broken parts on it, some parts i also designed up and 3d printed to replace the original broken plastics.
So why this boat some of you may ask?
Well my Great Uncle who unfortunately died only a few days before the model show actually served on a Flower Class Corvette and my father remembers the stories from his uncle as it was an exciting part of his life. With the price of the boat aswell there was no holding him back and he snatched it up. A very good buy.
Its almost ready for the water.
Excuse the rushed photos, but better ones to come

That looks fantastic Will
There were a few bargains to be had at the show
I'm trying to research what ships my father was a gunner on after the north African campaign. All I know is that he was transferred to the Navy from the Royal Artillery, and served on two convoy escort ships, which both sank. . . .
Yep, he was a lucky man, both times he was taken off the ships to train gunners the first time and take part in D Day training exercises the second time, and out of both ships lost, I believe there was only one survivor, a 17 year old lad.

I need to find the ships name again which my great uncle served on, but this one in particular in the model has already been named and i know it is a different ship.
Its another thing i love about military modelling, the stories which go behind memories being relived after seeing a scale version of the real items family/friends may have served with

Re: Flower Class Corvette
I always wanted a 1/72 scale Flower Class as when we had open days and the ships were in the lake or pool the poor little Flowers always took on water if there was a afternoon breeze up and the skipper had to bring her home .
Alas some of them didn't make it RIP. There was always a Flower skipper drying out his gear somewhere lol Plucky little ships IRL too.
Great build mate.
Cheers.

Re: Flower Class Corvette
This is a great model kit ideally suited to RC conversion.. and with 275 ships to choose from, there's plenty of scope for modification. And they are still about although damn expensive these days.
I modelled mine on the 'Compass Rose' from 'The Cruel Sea' film as played by RHN Kriezis (ex HMS Coreopsis, K32) although the Pennant Number K49 was actually HMS Crocus.
Coreopsis was a long fo'castle Flower although in the book, Compass Rose would have been an early Short Fo'castle ship with the mast forward of the bridge, an interesting conversion if anyone wanted to try it...
I ran mine for nearly 20 years before it went to the model scrapyard....
