Is that the confirmed cause of fire?

Good Morning,
He'll be back, a solid fellow. This is still heartbreaking stuff. Don't use LiPos because of this kind of imagery already in my head and for damn sure now, never will.
No injury or loss of life so take the meat from the bone....

Yes this is really sad news for Christian and the tank modeling community and we can only hope he’s able to recover in the near future..... But the question remains ‘ WHY folks continue using these batteries when it’s been proven beyond a doubt their dangerous and not to be trusted.Sad!
But it’s a dry heat!

As far as i know, all my 1/16 tank batteries are Lipo ? is there any alternative ? I even remember forgetting a Traxxas Lipo on a simple charger for days... seeing these pictures are troubling. I will be more careful and there might be safer charger i can use.

Once he gets going again, and I’m sure he will, perhaps Phoenix Modellbau would be the new trading name.
Sad event indeed.
Glad no human loss was involved, that would have been the real tragedy

The golden rule is to 'never' leave a Lipo charging unsupervised, and to always use a sealed metal box, something like an ammo crate. I say that knowing that I leave my Lipo's charging on a wooden table, though I am only ever a couple of feet away. Some only charge them outdoors.

They are risky, Nimh's are totally safe, but we all know the risk, and because of the benefits, we carry on using them.

Time for a metal charging tin I think.... 8O

I have charged my lipos in the open, but always supervised. However, I think I shall be changing that. I was just about to enquire about some tank parts from Christian. That will have to wait, though I did check out his Web site and it was as per normal.

Those pictures are devastating, a sad end for what would have been a very unique collection. My best wishes to Christian who is one of the great trailblazers of this hobby and a very nice bloke form my limited dealings with him.
This is a timely reminder about the dangers of batteries. A house in my street went up a couple of years ago due to a motorbike battery left on a dodgy charger so it's not just lipos that need care. As others have said, the fact that no one was injured or worse is a good result. Models can always be rebuilt.
