Heng Long for Taigen mfu swap out

Post by General Jumbo01 »

A spin off from my latest SU-100 project that with passing on... My T34/85 had a HengLong MFU that works with the black plastic transmitter . I know from experience when l updated one of these for their later version that uses the same transmitter but with a silver stickered front panel that there are comparability issues by the dozen.

You'll understand my amazement then that the new v3 Taigen/Torro MFU that has the separate sounds module was perfectly plug compatible with the old HengLong MFU. The tank now drives better and has those wonderful sounds, including the sound of the shell casing dropping on the loaders metal false leg after firing!

If you want a cheap, easy upgrade for your older HL tank l can recommend this option, plus you can choose your sound module. If you buy the right version of the v3 MFU you will even be able to switch your hull recoil off.

Just thought I'd pass this on :)

When I first got into tanks almost all of them still came with the 27 megahertz eye-poker antenna and one of the first things I did was swap out the old rx18 for a taigen 2.4 GHz mfu. Very cheap way to get better control and sound, and I've always thought that for an airsoft tank, the stock control is pretty much all you need.

I got an older used Heng Long 27mhz King Tiger, that had a dead system in it. I contacted Taigen in Florida and bought a new Version 3 setup. I installed it just fine and really like it a lot. I will be buying more of these to change older 27mhz systems to this setup as soon as I can afford to.

Did that involve any wire changing, or was it plug and play?

It should be pretty much Plug and Play. The TG and HL mfus are laid out almost exactly the same. The only difference is the motors. On one the right motor plugs into the middle plug and on the other the left motor plugs into the middle plug, but I can't remember which is which.

Thanks Gary

I know there are bigger differences with the newer Heng Longs, but I have a few old crystal Heng Longs that I need to change.

I loved the Taigen V3 mfu with the Tiger 1 sound card until the turret rotation sound kicked in. That high pitched squeaking sound drove me and my wife crazy to point of replacement. The upside was that the motor control was a big improvement over the older mfu.

Yes, this one. It really is a straight plug for plug swap. Like l said, purchase the recoil switch type and you also get the remote smoker switch. The general control is better but for me it was the new sounds produced by the interchangeable sound packs that sold it, plus of course you can fit the Taigen IR. I'll post a pic.

Typical, it just had to be that one lol.
The majority of my older 2.4 gig Heng Longs are the other one lol, I believe I only have one of the type you mention.

Thanks for the reply.
