Tamiya battle system
Tamiya battle system
I am going to fit the Tamiya IR battle system to either the pershing or the Sherman in case I get to Cobbaton, that is not the problem, the problem is how do I test it to make sure it is working, because I have the one radio and all of the 3 Tamiya tanks have the same channel crystals in them at 40 Mhz and no other IR tank to fire against

Re: Tamiya battle system
thats odd, my Tamiya battle system never recognised hits through a mirror, ive heard that its a clever system, that recognises its exact own frequency so that it doesnt bounce of anything and hit itself, as the only reason we see things is because lights bouncing off it into our pupils, so the lights from the IR emmiter would bounce of practically anything, especially white and shiny things straight bac into itself...
Anyway Brel the systms are very easy to fit and very reliable, so they shouldnt go wrong or not work first time, but to test them im not sure, try the mirror but if it doesnt work then buy 2 lol!
to test the IR emmiting hold a camera to it and fire, you'll see the Infar Red bulb light up.
cheers,
Matt

Re: Tamiya battle system
Hi Brel Impact one is cheaper if welsh dragon has them or you could buy from Darkith the dbu but you will have to get hold of molex plugs 2 pin and 5 pin there a bit like rocking horse crap .very hard to find but you could have three for the same price as one Tamiya battle unit(but you will have to assemble them) and make the leads for the battle unit and also make an I.R.emmitter.
regards pete
P.S.I would try Steve first.

Re: Tamiya battle system
I use a TV universal remote control to test my Tamiya units - put the remote control into 'learn' mode - place it in front of the emitter and fire a shot or two. Use a button on the remote that you don't use for the TV. Once 'learnt', fire at the 'apple' and the tank should respond. This would prove that both emitter and apple are working correctly.
Good way of demonstrating the battle functions to tank newbies too. You can pick up a universal remote from B&Q or Maplins for a tenner, so not expensive if you don't already have one.

Chris.

Re: Tamiya battle system
or if you have your IR emmiter on the wire, cant you just twist it round and aim it at itself ? that would save trying to bouce it off a wall or buying a universal tv remote (thats if you dont allready have one
)

Re: Tamiya battle system
Hi I have just had a little inspiration if these remotes can be set to a motor with a cam to fire, you could have them set out as boobie traps when a tank runs over the contacts .

Re: Tamiya battle system
Set the DMD to "test" mode, and shoot at a light colored wall. Should work. You need no other items, just the Tamiya system itself. I've installed a ton of them over the years, and never had one that did not work. And do set the tank at 90 degrees to the wall.
