This tank will be painted one section at a time, this side was replaced in a hurry so it will be raw steel from the warehouse/factory, no primer, no paint. We start by getting it smooth and removing the skirt rail.

What did you do to the suspension arms to get the late steel wheels fitted ?

I trimmed back the arms a little and then drilled holes slightly smaller than some machine screws I had. I put the machine screws through the wheels and then carefully screw them into the arms with super glue to make sure they won’t move then I put the outerwheels on. The result is the wheels roll effortlessly and tracks fit good!

After removing some of the grey it should be sealed again with another coat of hair spray

Airbrush these three colors randomly around the rust areas

Then again get wet and remove most it

Remove the streaking grime highlights with low Oder thinner in light downward strokes

Stempel or gently jot small amounts of the grey/blue in the grey areas whic give it even more contrast

Airbrush a very thin line around the edge of the plate to simulate wielding burn

Then with a very thin brush dry brush this onto the edge of the grey edge

Thanks! It will actually look better as the rest of the tank takes shape. The contrast between the rest of the rust primer and the steel throws off the look. In the end it will actually look better.

I removed the guard at the top of the mantel, this tank will be to worn for that to have survived.

I mask off the metal and the oxide primer sections I want to keep

Now I remove the tape from the metal, I will re tape it each time I paint as leaving tape on to long can be dangerous when its finally removed.

The raw metal really looks good and stands out now that the tank has a non rust color on it.
