Srcatch build all brass T-34

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Srcatch build all brass T-34

Post by walter »

Long time ago I came across an East German hobby magazine that included a Russian T-34 model tank plan.
The plan was quite simplified for a wooden build model.
At the time that model plan was not very appealing, till years later when I had access to a lot of brass, that the idea came to build that tank with some modifications all in brass.
And so it started.
The first parts I made were the tracks. for the links I used 10x3mm flat steel. I had to make 4 jigs to machine and drill each of the 122 links. For the driving teeth i used 6mm dia. brass and filed the teeth to shape.
The traction part of the link had 2mm square brass rod centrally soft soldered on.
At the finish I had all the links zinc galvanized.
All the parts of the tank body were cut to shape from 1mm sheet brass and soft soldered together.
By that time I felt a bit adventurous and thought the tank should have reel bullet firing gun.
The gun barrel came from a 4mm caliber air rifle,it was to be fired manually through the commanders hatch and for loading the gun I made a hatch in the right side of the turret.
The tank was to be a static model and I made no provisions to have it radio controlled.
The gun could be raised and lowered by a screw at the top of the turret and for turning the turret I could insert a cranking handle at bottom of the right hand fuel tank.
Here are some pictures.
