BMP-1 IFV - Soviet army, Afghanistan 1980s - Build
Re: BMP-1 IFV - Soviet army, Afghanistan 1980s - Build
Hi,
The model is finished.
In this an extended post to present the painted figures on the model.
Each figure is made unique using Reedees Miniature head sets.
Final preparations before painting.
In this RC vignette, a squad of Soviet VDV mechanized paratroopers are coming back from a successful mission in a valley held by guerillas. Although the men are glad the mission is over and are on their way back to base, they are still anxious and on the lookout for potential ambush and mines. Each men is riding on the top of the vehicle (in case of mine blast), and covering a specific area with their weapon at the ready.
The lieutenant is keeping watch with his men.
This man is holding a captured AKM rifle.
Here is a Soviet Rambo.
The RPG man is having two extra rockets in his back pack. Although there are rarely any enemy tank or APC in Afghanistan, the RPG can be of good use against snipers and bunkers.
Continuing on following post.

Continuing the picture show.
The men are not glued to the vehicle and can be removed for RC operations.
The 3D printed Maim tank commander. Although you do not see his face much, he actually looks like actor George Dzundza as the Soviet tank commander in the movie "The Beast".

Continuing the picture show
The 3D printed, Maim tank driver, looking good.
The 1/16 Quasar AKS-74U is sublime for the look and to work with.
I will risk some face close ups...

Louis,
Excellent work as always! Working on soviet 1/16 figures myself, I know the terror of the closeup ( paints and brushes come back out ) The figures always look better from RC running distance. ;o)
regards,
Painless

...Here for the Dawn...

And final set of picture.
This is it. Overall, it was a very complex project, with an ambitious objective of having a crew compartment interior while enabling most RC capabilities, and include a total of 8 figures. The Ludwigs BMP basic kit is recommended only to very experienced modellers.
I will start my next project soon.
Regards, Louis

Hi, to finish this build, here are exterior shots of the finished model. Oh, I could have spent another 2 months on the interior but it was time to move to another project. Regards, Louis
