1945 WWII Soviet IS-2 ( TAIGEN\TORRO )

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Good afternoon,
Assuming that Herman and I are on the same Train of Thought, place the foam under the pivot points where the trunnion mounts connect to the inner turret wall.
regards,
Painless

Basically jami a bit under the mantle assembly against the turret roof.
As there is a sliding recoil , there will always be a bit of wobble jyst in the clearance between the barrel and sleeve, made worse but the length of the barrel.
Trick is to take out as mush free play as possible from all components.
Foam is a bit “ agricultural “ but it helps
I use bed roll mat material used for camping.

Sorry, l seemed to have missed this thread. Yes, foam works fine as a damper on mine - crude compared with a mini shock absorber but works well enough and far cheaper. Better than a spring too as sponge doesn't bounce like a spring!

Rctank.de stocks it now as well. Really great looking vehicle. A but sad though, that there is only a metal turret.

I know there has been some concern about the metal turret but, when you consider the hefty weight of the cast metal hull, it doesn't appear top heavy at all. Indeed, the size and weight of the meta barrel and the masses involved in the superb recoil action, the metal turret helps to stabilise things - something l would assume Taigen gave some thought to.

In my opinion, this new Taigen edition shadows all that has gone before it. The IS-2 has always been a favourite of mine but this is not a matter of 'love is blind'. It fully deserves pride of place.

Good morning,
Parts are filtering in for this tank. The Shapeways Dushka MG came in and it is a beauty. I am still awaiting a working rear turret MG from RCTank.de and some clue as to where to get a working barrel brace. ( Someone could make some serious dough from offering one of those ) To fill up the time, I am working on the crew. Pics ( Click to enlarge )

Parts set aside that I plan to use. The Commander will used as either a turret piece or stand alone using magnets to connect the halves.

It took a little sanding and careful reforming with heat to get the Commanders uniform tunic to fit in the hatch.
