Re: My Tiger Tank Project
Tiger 1s of your early type did not have the tow ropes laid out in the same way as the later "early" tiger 1s,
The tow ropes were reversed with the tow loops over the engine bay instead of over the front of the tank body,
If you want to fit one end of the tow rope onto the front of your Tiger you can buy working metal shackles that you can attach to the front of the tank enclosing the tow rope loop and of course when you want to open your tank just undo the shackle and release the tow rope.
Dave at http://www.forgebeartanks.com can supply the metal shackles.

Re: My Tiger Tank Project
Yes, I already have the metal shackles mounted and I’m waiting on Aber cable clamps to properly mount them reversed as you mentioned. I just didn’t want to unscrew the shackle bolt every time I charge the battery. I was hoping for a modelers’ trick to avoid the hassle. I suppose there’s no way around it.

Re: My Tiger Tank Project
I have the Aber and the Voyager Cable clamps but I must warn you that unless you have the patience of a Saint I would use the Cable clamps that Dave sells,
Simply pin vise a hole in the proper places for them and fit them over the tow cable,
They are made of a soft metal and can be filed into a strap like shape and when painted Brown you would have trouble telling the difference and it is just one piece instead of the multitude of minute and fragile pieces of the Aber and Voyager clamps.
I love the detail that photo-etch gives me but some of it leaves me wondering if life is not too short for it.

Re: My Tiger Tank Project
Great suggestion however the Aber set should be here any day now. If they are too pesky I’ll follow your suggestion. I really enjoyed building the Aber fire extinguisher kit so maybe their clamps won’t disappoint me too much.
Re: My Tiger Tank Project
Tonight I mounted the tow cables. I used diagrams and photos for the proper placement of the initial Tiger’s cables. I modeled one in the stowed position and that tight loop is difficult to make with the steel cable. The driver side cable is draped for quicker use. I didn’t attatch the draped cable to the tow hooks to enable easier hull removal. Also the gun cleaning rods are mounted further forward.
I’m getting a little closer to having an initial Tiger.

Thanks for the links and advice! Great reading and product information. It’s amazing how many detail parts are available for the Tiger 1. I reused the Heng Long plastic cleaning rods after removing the molded on cables. I’ve got some more upgrades on the way from Forgebear. The fun never ends!

Re: My Tiger Tank Project
Jimster did these early tigers have additional deck mounted smoke dischargers? I vaguely remember some dischargers mounted on an early tiger I had....
