Brass stock sizes for scratch builds
Can anyone confirm the brass stock sizes required for scratch building jerry can holders and the like?
I’m thinking that 2-3mm should do the trick in flat, right angle and c-channel sections.
I’ve used K&S Metals for other scale projects in the past, and B&Q has decent tube too.

Simple to work out really,
2mm x 16 = 32mm in real life
3mm x 16 = 48mm
B&Q has odd bits but it’s usually bent to death.

Thanks Midlife, maths isn’t a strong point so validation is appreciated!
Yep, B&Q bent specials usually get a decent discount...

Ta Ronnie, found loads of it on eBay and quite a few pot luck off cut auctions that could be useful.ronnie42 wrote:Do a search for Albion Alloys they have lots of stuff in brass.
Probably best to just buy what I need though!

Re: Brass stock. sizes for scratch builds
I use both K&S and Albion Alloys both manufactures of good quality brass sheets and shapes.
As for determining size, unless you have one close by to measure then it's going to be an "educated guess". I reference photos then base it on how it fits to your tank or in this case the "Jerry Can".
I do a lot of scratch building using brass so I keep a large variety of shapes, sheets in a assortment of sizes.
Cheers,
Barry

Wow Barry, talented metal work!
I already have a stock of styrene and happily used it in the past, but never integrated brass details before. Is there a preferred supplier for the bolts and hinges, or do you scratch build them too?
However, I’m getting ahead of myself as my first tank bits won’t arrive until Friday...
