Sherman Firefly Turrets...........
'Afternoon All,
For a Sherman Firefly turret, were "low-bustle" or high bustle turrets used in the conversion? I'm aware of the modified M34A1 gun mount to accommodate the 17 Pdr Gun, and the Armoured Box fitted to the turret rear for the No 19 set.
Any advice?
Cheers,
Chris Preston,

Re: Sherman Firefly Turrets...........
Depends on which base sherman you want to use? Composite hulled Firefly 1c's could have had a high bustle turret to be able to clear the larger drivers hatches, the Vc would have only had low bustle turrets due to the M4A4 exiting production before the high bustle turret was introduced.
Edit: I take that last bit back - did a bit more digging:
"One of the reasons for the introduction of the high bustle D78461 turret, is that the low bustle was stated to have caused some interference issues when mounted on large hatch Shermans. However, the majority of large hatch Composites were produced with low bustle turrets, and we have found no historical records that reported this as a problem."

This is one of the websites the more addicted Shermanophiles use, as it's rich in detail, and pics.

Many Thanks for your replies.
Would any one have contact information for Nick Aguilar? His M4 hull and turret set look fantastic.
Cheers,

Nick seems to have become as elusive as Bigfoot. I found a reference here to the DAK group he subscribed to once, and his membership of rcuniverse:

he gave his email address then as:
ndaguilar@grandecom.net.
However, this was back in 2011. Changes happen fast in this digital world, though....

Both of these email addresses are posted publicly on the rcuniverse.com website.Tiger6 wrote:Could you guys PM his personal email, rather than post it publically.
Here, in fact:

However, I appreciate keeping a rein on public exposure to every aspect of one's existence..
The trouble is, all the Multinationals, Banks, Social Media sites, and even Governments either trade our data, or have it hacked from them..

Re: Sherman Firefly Turrets...........
Just for latest info, I emailed Nick this week to ask about buying one of his early M4 turrets with the narrow 75mm mantlet, (for an M4A4 build). He still makes it, and our business took only about two days to conclude. He is both friendly and fast, so don't hesitate to ask if he still produces something that you can't find elsewhere.
