Scratch built Challenger Auto track adjusters

Post by Sub »

Hi Chaps,
please see attached pics of my humble attempts at making some Track Adjusters...not finished yet but getting there.
I still have to size the length of the ram for the tank and make the swivel plate to go beneath the idler wheel to the Hull but slowly getting there.
Regards Sub.

Great start Sub!

I'm looking to do the same for my Abrams.

Thanks for the pics.

Hi Chaps,
Been a while since I updated this thread, since some of you showed an interest....well ONE person actually.. I thought Id show the progress...
Adjusters now fully fitted and operational along with scratch built rear drive shaft bearings and housings and DIY track sprocket anti slip rings and oh yeah scratch built Dorchester armour I am making.
Hope this is of interest of more than ONE person if so will continue with the build modification updates.
Please excuse the splatter around photo 1320822 as I had not cleaned the excess glue off before taking the pic...now all gone.
Regards
Sub.

Further photos of slip rings and Dorchester armour build.
Please excuse the mucky state of the armour as it is just mild overspray from the rear black rear paint coat.
Hope some find it interesting.

Well I am the interested one for sure, nicely done!

I am still trying to figure how to best adapt it to the M1 Abrams. Same concept but very different adaption. On the Abrams the self adjuster fits between the idler wheel mount and the 1st road wheel swing arm. So it pushes on the idler or road wheel to maintain track tension.

Thanks for sharing!!

Hmmm.. *ponders* I stìll have some tiny 1/18 scale oil-filled shocks laying about somewhere.. Never thought about using then that way... and since the Abrams has a nasty habit of throwing tracks... *stumbles off to man-cave, mumbling incoherently*

Thanx for jogging my brain into creativity.

Hi.
No worries glad its had an effect.
I was about to update this thread anyway.
All the mods i have made have worked the track adjusters and the sprocket anti slip rings have cured my Challenger of throwing tracks it was a pain before the mods.
I tried it the other day on 2 inch long wet grass previously it would have thrown a track immeadiately i tried a neutral turn even on a flat bowling green.
Now it just rips up the grass and turns...most happy...
Must do an updated photo.

Fantastic, nicely done sub

And I am particularly impressed with your self adjusters, I feel I must steal your designs to save my own grey matter wearing out ;)

Hi Chaps,
Updated photo of the Challenger 2 Upgrade, still have the frontal Armour to make and the exhaust extensions, decals etc but you get the general idea what's going on.
