Are they, though? While I'll admit that I've never heard a Tamiya tank in the flesh, they sound overly synthetic in all of the videos I've seen; very short audio loops with aggressive pitch-shifting. Maybe they have some kind of je ne sais quoi in real life but the Benedini, Elmod and newer-generation Clark boards all sound far superior to me. I don't understand how the Tamiya electronics command such exorbitant prices when they don't sound as good, don't control as well and don't offer as many features as aftermarket boards (or even the current crop of H/L and Taigen offerings).

They sound way better than hl/Taigen. The Tigers probably the weakest sound. The more recent ones are actually pretty good. Control wise they're better than most of the after market boards, much smoother and better crawl speed than the clarks and ibus.

I think the reason they command high prices is because they're reliable, they battle as they should and they're straight forward.

Not sure l agree with that. Lets take a wider look.
The equivalent multi function command box for a Tamiya truck is around £250. The box requires you to make frequent use of the trims on your transmitter, an inconvenience and a function they are not designed for. By contrast, the control box l use has all the function and more, uses only the sticks to provide all that function and costs under £60. It's a no brainer, except........

Its not Tamiya! Most Tamiya users seem unable to accept that there may be better out there for less outlay. Hey, its their loss. We ALL need to experiment a little (a lot?) and discover all these other products from small, New companies that are keen to make our life better. Sounds a bit like a serman, that!

If anyone has a personal and a wide experience of tank control systems out there who is prepared to give a download of their knowledge right here l for one would very much appreciate it - thanks

Just to clear things up - I was comparing the sound / electronics to the Heng Long and Mato's I've got.

There are better sound systems out there. My IS-2 has a IBU-3 and that sounds great.

You don’t need to use the trims if you have a good radio so I disagree with what you say.

I’m about to change my truck mfu for a Benedini to get accurate sounds but the mfc does a good job just a little expensive.

Here we go. My fully configurable 10 channel tranny cost £28 in a Bangood sale - I'll put it against any of my top spec £500+ Futaba etc units l have. The Tamiya MFUs are FIVE times the price of the unit l use and sound and function nothing like as good as mine.

Sorry, I've been sponsored by Tamiya in the past so l have used their top equipement but it never won any prizes without some serious redesign, often using rival brand parts.

However, l am not knocking Tamiya. If you like it fine, l do too, but it is way too expensive for what can be bought elsewhere. Most if the top respected big brand RC names are now having their top products both designed and manufactured by the far east factories that also produce kit under their own brand, and the cost of manufacture is the same. The 500% price hike only occurs when they put the well know brand logos on the box.

I don't want to hijack a good thread with a long time sensitive topic, but do you remember all the 'wouldn't touch them with a bargepole' brigade when Hobbywing appeared. Sponsored by them l took a 2015 UK championship. And guess what chassis l used to do that, a sub- £100 3-Racing one, all done just to prove a point. Use your head, not your wallet!

Now, l apologise again, but lets stop knocking the up and coming small outfits that WILL displace the old brigade one day.
