Building a Bevel gear Gear Box

Post by walter »

Lately I found out there are a number of very good bevel gear gear boxes available.
All using geared motors.
It is amazing how simplistic these gear boxes actually are against the modification of a standard gear box I did before.
Looking on the internet I found bevel gears with module 1 15 teeth and a 6mm bore.
Making them small enough to be viable for my project.
Also I found Merkle-Kroff geared motors that just stated 6-12 volt 30 rpm.
When I received them I soon realized I had a problem.
The motors rpm's where way to slow, the drive shaft was 1/4 inch and 10mm to short.
All the screw sizes had some strange American threads.
I had to re tap the mounting screw holes to be able to use screws I had.
But the overall quality was very good.
Here is how I went about it.

Side plate. It also will be used to fix the gear box to the side wall of the tank.
