When I was building 813 a Tunisian Tiger1 I wanted to put an MG34 on the Cupola but learned heads told me that the early Tiger1s did not have such a fit, But a combination of Painless's encouragement and some very grainy pictures showing what was supposed to be a field modification got me knocking together a mount very much like the PZ111/4 that Painless made,
For the purists I made up two cupolas, one with the MG34 and one plain so I can swap them around and if you are going to fit a metal cupola on the PZ111 you could fit that out with the MG and use the plastic cupola when some smartass comes by.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

And that is why I made up two Cupolas, One with an MG and one without,
That way if Mr Picky came by for his annual inspection and a cup of tea and a biscuit I would not get caught out.

Just got back around to this thread and it made me think actually that gun mounting looks cool on our models,I too will probably do one,But there’s probably a pretty good reason we don’t see them.
Think for a minute the Kriegsmarine mounted heavy AA armament on their U boats and ordered their captains to fight it out on the surface against aircraft in order to save time transiting to patrol areas.
Ya,we all know how that worked out for’em :S
Same reasoning with a mg 34 mounted on a exposed position on a turret top.
Oh and as to the antenna getting in the way nope don’t think so that mg could swivel very far on its mount but doubt very much it could ride the rim of the cupola because of the hatch covers. 45 degree to either side probably as far as it could go.
Ps.

Maybe it's me but... that antennae position doesn't make a lot of sense. The minute the turret turns the rear of the turret would just surely bend/break the antennae.......??

Surely to goodness that's not a PZ111 but a late model StuH 42 without a muzzle brake so no turret to turn and the aerial is safe.
SOURCE, Page 86 of the Encyclopedia of German Tanks of WW2 has a photograph.
