One of Our Own Needs a Hand

Post by Max-U52 »

Hey Guys, One of our own fellow RC tankers, Terry Tiell, AKA Jackalope, has been diagnosed with cancer. The good news is it's very treatable and the long term prognosis is good, the bad news is that on May 15th Jack's gonna have to give up a kidney (insert your own kidney pie joke here). He'll be out of work for at least six weeks and the railroad he works for doesn't have short term disability so it's gonna be a hard row to hoe for a minute there. Terry's wife, the world famous Mrs. Jackalope, has opened a go fund me page in case anyone wants to help them get through the difficult time ahead. If you want to help the page is here

https://www.gofundme.com/help-terry-recover

Also, and this applies more to our U.S. members because of the high price of postage, I have some items up for sale and the proceeds will go to help Jack. I have two 15cm howitzers in 1/16th (the Merit kits) one assembled and one still in the plastic, and a 1/18th 88mm flak gun (also Merit) still in the box and un-assembled, as well as a nice Zvezda 1/35th King Tiger kit, and I'll sell any of my unbuilt aircraft kits (1/32 scale) if anyone is interested. You can PM me if you are interested and I'll make you a very good deal, with all proceeds going to the go fund me page.

Terry's a great guy and a good friend, and it really sucks that this is happening to him. I hope at least some of you guys will want to help, and if you can't help with a donation, at least send out some of them positive waves for Terry and his family. 8)
When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!

Oh no, I am very sorry to read you are having health issues, Terry. Hope you recover soon...

Also I cannot understand how the health system works there in the U.S. Looks like you cannot be sick there! Where are the human rights, man!

Thank you Gary. This has come on pretty suddenly, Thursday morning at 2am I woke to go to the bathroom and peed blood. Went to the ER and there was an 11 hour wait just to be seen! Went to my dr at 9am, he sent me for a CT scan cause everyone was sure I passed a kidney stone and he wanted to look for me. What they found was a 6.8 cm mass in my right kidney that was the cause of the blood. So now I'm on a fast track to getting it removed and I'll be out of work for 6 weeks at least. Then I have to deal with my works medical department to be placed back at work and they can take 2 weeks to a month to clear you! So I could miss over 2 months of work!

I've contacted our creditors and am trying to make arrangements with them to postpone our monthly bills for 2 months but I don't know how that'll go. I have a week of paid vacation time I can take and will receive $72 a day in railroad retirement sickness pay but that won't cover much.

We set the goal at $8000 but I know we'll never come close to that but I figured to try and see so my family will be taken care of while I get better and back to work.

Thank you to Mr.Rainford the first to donate and to anyone else who can help my family I thank you too.

Prayers out brother. I've been going through some bad right now too. Lost literally my whole family in the last month. Just temporarily for dad and my son, but mom died and wife almost died and is in the hospital. Stay strong.

Terry's surgery is scheduled - ironically - on my birthday. Although I was happy to donate to him anyway; I just can't ague with an omen like that! Ha. -Mike

Thank you SO SO very much for the help guys. We hate asking, makes me feel bad, I've never had to ask for help before in my life! I always work hard and get what I want or need through just that, hard work. But this time I can't do anything and it's killing me! Really don't know how to act as again I've never been in a position like this before.

But again thank you to everyone.
